In 1993 his father Mohammad Hanif Khan died of heart attack during election campaign. His father was an eminent politician from the Pakistan People’s Party forum and his supporters were not few but he was the main figure in the political history of PPP in general and Malakand in particular. This situation forced Hamayun Khan to resign from the post of SDO and started his political life following the footprints of his late father.
